Why Won't My Computer Boot?
Does the computer power on but nothing shows up on the monitor or does go directly into the bios screen.

When a gaming PC powers on but produces no display, the first step is determining which component is preventing the system from completing POST. Common causes include failed memory, a failed graphics card, or a CPU problem. If the motherboard provides diagnostic LEDs or POST codes, those can help narrow down where the failure is occurring.
From there, I isolate the hardware. Rather than guessing and replacing parts unnecessarily, I test components individually. Depending on the situation, that may mean installing known-good test components into the customer's computer or moving the customer's components into one of my test systems. By systematically testing the memory, graphics card, CPU, and other hardware, I can identify which component is actually causing the failure.
Powers on but has no display, what's the very first thing you physically do?
One of the first components I isolate is the graphics card. I remove the GPU from the customer's computer and install it in one of my known-good test systems. This lets me determine quickly whether the graphics card itself is functioning.
At the same time, I test the computer's power supply and its output connections with a power-supply tester. This has become increasingly important with newer high-performance graphics cards. Their substantially higher power requirements can expose a failing or inadequate power supply, and in some cases I've seen these cards contribute to power-supply failures.
Testing the GPU separately while checking the power supply helps distinguish between a failed graphics card and a power-delivery problem that may produce very similar symptoms.
GPU tests good and the power supply tests good.
If the graphics card and power supply test correctly, I move to the memory. I remove all but one memory module and attempt to boot the system. If it still won't boot, I swap that module with another stick from the computer and test again. If necessary, I'll install a known-good memory module from the shop. If none of those changes the behavior, I can be reasonably confident that memory isn't causing the problem.
The next step is the processor. I'll replace the customer's CPU with a compatible test CPU and try the system again. If it still fails to boot, I continue isolating the remaining hardware.
At that point, I can install the customer's components into a known-good test system. If the graphics card, memory, CPU and other components all function properly outside the original computer, we've effectively isolated the failure to the motherboard. The motherboard can then be replaced without simply guessing which expensive component has failed.
Diagnosis by elimination, not guesswork
Most no-display problems aren't mysterious once the hardware is tested systematically. My troubleshooting process is based on deductive reasoning: isolate each component, test it independently when necessary, and establish whether it is good or bad before moving on.
I also ask what changed before the problem started. If a customer recently installed a new CPU, graphics card, memory, or other component, I'll verify that the hardware is compatible with the motherboard and existing system. Sometimes the hardware isn't defective at all—the motherboard may simply require a BIOS update before it can support a newer processor or other component.
By the end of the process, we've isolated the failed component or identified the compatibility problem rather than replacing parts based on assumptions.
The Computer Powers On with display , But Windows Won't Boot windows.
A different situation occurs when the computer successfully powers on and completes its initial startup process, but Windows never loads. In these cases, the problem is usually no longer the graphics card, memory, or CPU.
Some of the most common causes I find are incorrect BIOS settings, a failing boot drive, or corruption of the Windows boot partition.
I start by checking the BIOS configuration and verifying that the computer recognizes the correct boot drive and that the appropriate boot settings are being used. If the BIOS configuration is correct, I remove the drive and test it independently using professional drive-diagnostic software. I test both the physical condition of the drive and the integrity of its partitions.
That testing generally identifies whether we're dealing with a hardware failure or corrupted data on an otherwise usable drive.
If the drive is failing, the priority is recovering and backing up the customer's data whenever possible. The failed drive can then be replaced and Windows installed on the new drive.
If the drive itself tests good but the boot partition or Windows installation is damaged beyond practical repair, the drive can be repartitioned and Windows reinstalled after the customer's data has been safely backed up.
The goal isn't to guess which part might be bad. It's to prove which components are good, isolate the one that isn't, and then determine the most appropriate repair.
